Milling FAQS

Commonly Asked Questions
What is asphalt millings?
Asphalt millings is what we use to do our driveways. What it is, is when the roadways and highways are ripped up to be redone those chunks of asphalt get reprocessed and screened into tiny pieces free of debris. These millings then get spread and we vibratory roll them to a rock hard finish. The oils in the millings will start to bind with the heat of the sun. Now these milling driveways do bind hard but they are NOT hot asphalt meaning they will have a little crust on the top and wont be perfect. Asphalt millings is a great eco-friendly option for driveways and can last many many years with proper care. It is also a much more financially friendly option in comparison to hot asphalt.
When can I drive on my new milling driveway?
We recommend a minimum of a week. This will give the millings time to set up and bind without the constant traffic on it. As we mentioned the heat of the sun helps to bind these millings together, so giving it the proper amount of time to do that before driving on it will help the longevity of your driveway,
Can I plow my asphalt milling driveway?
Short answer, yes. But whether you do it or have a company do it please leave the blade up at least an inch. Reason being it could tear up your driveway if the plow digs into it, inturn ruining your beautiful driveway. We also always suggest staking off the edges of your driveway to protect the sides of it and your grass while plowing. Using calcium or salt on it is completely safe and will also help protect it and melt any remaining snow that may be left.

How much product will be needed to do my milling driveway?
We always  do a minimum of a 5" base when laying out our milling driveways. There is a reason for this, this ensures that there is enough material to spread evenly and also compact properly as we roll it. Doing a smaller base can lead to a bumpy and uneven finish. We also always grade and prep the ground before laying out our millings.

Can I seal coat my asphalt milling driveway?
